New Years Eve

We rang in the new year with fireworks.
It rained through out our whole fireworks show. The rain didn't put a damper on our fun it actually added a little spice to our celebration.

2009 we celebrate and cheer for you!
Our family enjoyed sharing our gratitudes through out the year. I really do think it made our year a bit more joyous. Acknowledging the blessings around us makes our lives more joyful. I believe it is one of those natural laws.

"Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done..."

We have become very aware of the blessings that the Lord provides. We are humbled by His graciousness and filled by his love and care.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful for fireworks. Why can't we do fireworks everyday?
Valu: Grateful for this year. It has been a good year. It went by really fast.
Mom: Grateful that we kept up our goal of keeping a daily gratitude journal. Amazed, actually. Even though we won't be journaling our gratitudes we will continue sharing them before family prayer. Hoping that this habit will continue to be cherished not just something we have to do.
Dad: Grateful for the unity and love that encompasses our family. I think our gratitude journal has brought us closer together. I am so grateful for a wife who follows through. I am such a lucky and blessed man.

We Love Musubi

Wednesday, 30 December 2009

We love Spam musubi, yes we do! We love Spam Musubi, how about you?

I guess we are true locals! 15 years ago I would have been embarrassed to admit that I liked Spam. Well, I still can't proclaim that I like Spam. I don't think I would eat it in any form other than musubi.

Oh, how I love Spam fried in a brown sugar and soy sauce mixture which is then molded into a sushi roll with flavorful furikake seasoning peppered through out the rice. YUM! For the record, Kaya's in Punalu'u makes the best Spam musubi on the island. THE BEST!!

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that the missionaries came.
Valu: Grateful that we were able to get the casita ready in time for the missionaries.
Mom: I am grateful that we were quickly able to get the casita ready for the missionaries. My only regret---I forgot to take pictures of the casita before we gave them the keys. :)
Dad: Grateful that we have missionaries here. They are great young men.

After 11 Years of Service...

Tuesday, 29 December 2009

...The Ramanlal Hotel aka 'The Casita' is closing its doors. The Honolulu Mission President asked the members of our stake to house a set of missionaries--we knew this request was ours to fulfill. We always planned to put missionaries in the casita - we just thought that we would wait until we moved into town. We have kept the back house available for friends and family. We have loved having our visitors. LOVED! We have been very fortunate that the casita has hardly been vacant the past 11 years. We are saddened to think we will not be able to have visitors stay with us until we move into town. -- This just might be the nudge we need to find our new home.

Looks like this new year is already hopping with change. I love change...it is only through change that we grow! I am hoping that having the missionaries live in our backyard will encourage the boys to be a bit more polite and kind to one another. I hope that the boylies watch the Elders serve one another and tolerate one another and desire to follow their example. -- Yes, I think this change is going to be a grand one.

The photo below shows the activity the boylies have been enjoying this holiday season.
We have had a lot of rain which has put a bit of a damper on our outings. The boys don't play video games during the school week so this has been a special treat. :)

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that we get to play video games.
Valu: Grateful that we were able to play a bit today.
Mom: Grateful for fabulous holiday sales. We were able to find a great bunk bed and nice bedding for the missionaries on short notice. The missionaries move in tomorrow.
Dad: Grateful that my wife has a gift to find just what we need and and at the perfect price.

The Tooth Fairy gave you how much?!

Monday, 28 December 2009

To say that Keenie was excited would be a huge understatement!
When he found the money under his pillow he could hardly contain himself.
He has never possessed anything larger than a five dollar bill.
Valu let him know that the 1st tooth always paid the best price. The rest of his teeth will probably only be worth quarters or 50 cent pieces.

After the boys dentist appointments where they each received a stellar tooth report card, we went to Toys R Us where Keenan spent his $20 bucks on a Luke Skywalker figurine.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that the Tooth Fairy came.
Valu: Grateful that I only have to see the dentist twice a year.
Mom: Grateful that the boylies have good dental habits.
Dad: Grateful that I was able to meet my cute family in town for dinner. Just being with them brightens my day.

The Magic Continues

Sunday, 27 December 2009

Guess who is coming to visit us tonight?

Not Santa, he already visited. No, not the Easter Bunny.

Take a look at the photo below and take a guess.

Yep, the Tooth Fairy.

Last night Keenan came running to me in tears and proclaimed that his mouth is breaking. He showed me his loose tooth and was pratically hyperventilating from fright. When I saw his terrified little face I instantly got as excited and as animated as I could and exclaimed, "Whoot Whoo! You, my huge big kid are losing your baby teeth. How exciting! How fun! I can't believe you are so big already that you are losing teeth!" My over-acting worked and Keenan snapped out of his meltdown. Thank goodness. I have never seen terror in his eyes before today. He really thought that his mouth was falling apart. This afternoon his tooth did come out. I have never known a tooth to go from newly loose to out in less than 24 hrs. Keenan was a bit antsy about waiting for his tooth to fall out so he gave it a good yank. lol. He is excited to see how much the Tooth Fairy leaves under his pillow. Hmm, I have forgotten--how much is the going rate for a 1st lost tooth these days?

Valu was asked to speak at our Stake Priesthood Meeting tonight. He wouldn't let me take a photo of him all decked out so I will share his talk that he memorized, instead. :)

Brethren Aloha,

President Enesa met me on the road to my home Monday night. He asked me to give a talk on service at this meeting. At first I felt honored that I would be asked to speak at this meeting, being that I have only been a Deacon for 3 months. And then I felt a bit HUMBLED and horrified-being that I have only been a Deacon for 3 months. It wasn’t until I started preparing on Christmas day that I realized that I had made a mistake waiting so long to start. With a bit a self-motivating rationalization I decided that Christmas was a wonderful day to prepare a talk on service because it is the day that we celebrate Christ and his birth into this world - and one of the things that He did best while on this earth is serve others.

President Monson gave a memorable talk this past conference on service. While I was reading it, I was reminded of all the selfless actions, which the Lord performed for mankind. For example, during the last supper, he washed all of the apostles’ feet, which was one of the lowliest jobs at the time: the job of a servant. I realized that if the son of our Heavenly Father, our savior, would kneel down on and wash grimy feet with his bare hands, than I can at least do simple service for others.

I like the hymn Have You Done Any Good. One verse that really stands out to me is:

quote: "Have I done any good in the world today?
Have I helped anyone in need?
Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad? If not I have failed indeed. Has anyone’s burden been lighter today
Because I was willing to share?
Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way?
When they needed my help was I there?" unquote. It makes me remember how we will be responsible for the opportunities of service that we willingly ignore. - as in the saying by Voltaire. “Every man is guilty of all the good he did not do". This principle is repeated in Galatians 5:13. It reads “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love, serve one another.”

Service doesn’t only help me and the people I serve- it is the equivalent of serving our Savior. One well known scripture that teaches this concept is Mosiah 2:17 which reads “When you are in the service of your fellow beings you are only in the service of your God.”

As I was thinking about all of the ways our church promotes service I thought about Boy Scouts, one of its major goals is to promote and give service as said in their oath, slogan and law. The scout motto is “A scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent.” Their slogan is “Do a good turn daily!” and their oath is “On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.”

I remember an experience when my troop and I went out to the ward farm and served. We pulled weeds and cleared unwanted trees near the farmed plants. Although it took a couple hours and the hot sun was sweltering, it was still a wonderful feeling when we finished the job. Yet, another benefit of serving with others is that you often build a good bond with those around and you and get to know them better than you already do.

Every time I recite the mission statement of the Aaronic Priesthood, I always notice that part of their statement is to give service. The mission statement states: The purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood are to help each ordained to that priesthood:

· Become converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and live its teachings.

· Serve faithfully in each priesthood calling and fulfill the responsibilities of priesthood offices.

· Give meaningful service.

· Prepare and live worthy to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and temple ordinances.

· Prepare to serve an honorable full- time mission.

· Obtain as much education as possible,

· Prepare to become a worthy husband and father.

· Give proper respect to women, girls, and children.

One thing that I have learned about myself throughout my long life of twelve years is that I am often reluctant to go out and serve. Not that I don’t want to—I am just not sure what to do. But, then I realized it doesn’t matter what I do, it’s just important TO DO something. If I take the time to notice what is going on around me, there are always lots of ways to serve. Women and girls still really do love having doors opened for them. Smiles really do brighten other people’s days. Simply including someone or taking the time to really listen to someone is more than enough. I know my parents love it when I stay focused and actually listen to them. Truthfully, nothing compares to the special feeling you get when you have been able to really serve someone. Serving is one of the instances where both the giver and the receiver are both edified. I want to learn to serve the way Elder Marvin J. Ashton suggests, quote: “Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped.”

Every Christmas evening, after we have finished opening presents, my family and I have a special celebration where we give gifts to Christ. We of course don’t give him worldly gifts. We decided that the best give we can give him, the best way to honor HIM, is to become more like him. We pick a Christ-like attribute that we commit to develop through-out the next year and review at our FHEs. My gift to Christ for this up coming year is to serve full heartedly and without complaints, just like our Savior did.

I would like to bear my testimony to you that I know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true; that He shared HIS message to the world through service. I know that Joseph Smith restored this church. I am grateful for faithful saints who sacrificed and served so that we can live the gospel freely. I am grateful for my Young Men leaders who are great examples of serving selflessly. After all, they serve me and the rest of our quorum and make us feel like there is no other place they would rather be. I know that President Monson is our prophet now. I am thankful for my parents who constantly serve me. My dad who always is mindful and thoughtful of us, his family, always striving to be the perfect role- model father and person. I am grateful for my mom who helps me with my everyday problems and serves me in every aspect of my life. And I am thankful for my brother who continuously teaches me patience. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.

Gratitude Journal:

Keenan: Grateful that my tooth didn't hurt when it came out.

Valu: Grateful that my talk is over and I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Mom: Grateful that Valu takes his responsibilities seriously. He is a wonderful speaker.

Dad: Grateful that I could hear Valu speak. He is a remarkable young man. What a privledge it is to have him as a son.

The Day After...

Saturday, 26 December 2009

...we finally made it into Honolulu to see the Christmas Lights.

Ki noticed that I haven't had my camera out much this holiday season. -- The camera has taken a back seat as I have been trying to live in the moment and soak up the ambiance of the season.
The city lights are fun and a bit silly. I am just grateful that a devoted committee keeps up the tradition--25 years!

A lousy photo is better than no photo. Yes?

Keenan is enamored with Baby Heather. He loves to say her name--'HeathERR'.
All day long, he kept asking when we were going to see his Baby HeathERR.
He can't understand why she can't live with us. "After all Mom, her name is Heather, just like you."

Nothing can make you feel more masculine than posing in front of a gigantic Rudolf.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that I could be with Baby Heather. I love her.
Valu: Grateful that we could see the lights with friends.
Mom: Grateful for friends who bake us yummy Christmas goodies. Baking is not something I enjoy to do for the holidays. Holiday baking squashes my holiday joy. --
Dad: Grateful for friends who endure silly holiday outings with us.

Christmas Day

Friday, 25 December 2009

When Valu was born we asked Santa to make sure that he only brings one present for each of us. We wanted to make sure that the 'gimmies' along with unrealistic expectations could be easily quenched. Our simple Christmas is still magical yet we aren't bombarded with too much stuff. While this way of celebrating may not be for everyone, it works fabulously for us.
Santa brought Keenan his coveted Star Wars cruiser.

Santa brought Valu a PS3 and a couple of fabo games.

A hug from Keenan - Valu gave him a Star Wars ship.

Keenan sporting his Christmas Eve PJs and Bakugan goodies.

Valu sporting his new PJs and stash of cash from good ol dad.

Ki got a voice-activated alarm clock from his wife. She wanted to turn over the responsibilities of being the alarm clock steward to her hubby. The problem is the alarm clock went off the next day at 5:30 neither Ki or she could remember the command to stop the alarm. It wasn't Alarm Off. We tried; Stop Alarm, Alarm Stop, STOP!! STOP!!! -- Why oh why can't we remember the command. With the alarm progressively getting louder, we turn on the light and rummage through the drawer to re-read the manual. We mercifully turn off the alarm by stating: Turn Off The Alarm. I am pretty sure that we have that command memorized now.

Our most meaningful tradition of the Christmas Season occurs on Christmas night. This is only the 2nd year we have been doing this particular tradition--but it is a tradition that we will definitely continue. It has already become our favorite and most life-altering.

On Christmas night, after the hustle and bustle of the day had quieted down, we have a special ceremony to celebrate Christ's birth. We each give a gift to Christ. We decided that the best gift we can give him, the best way we can honor Him, is by trying to be like Him. We each commit to work on developing a Christ-like attribute. This promise is not just a one night thing. We commit to focusing on this goal until next Christmas.

We get out our fancy crystal goblets and chill our special apple cider. We each share our testimonies of the Savior and then share the attribute we will be working on through out the next year. We toast one another and promise to help one another with our commitments. To strengthen our resolve we review our goals during FHE over the next year.

The boys really enjoy the pomp and ceremony behind this tradition. Hopefully they will enjoy the power behind the tradition--as they mature.

Here is the ornament that holds our gifts to Christ.
It works just fine until I find a beautiful box to store our treasures.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that Santa brought me what I wanted. Santa is the best.
Valu: Grateful for a wonderful Christmas and a nice PS3.
Mom: Grateful for a grateful and gracious family. I feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. It has been a beautiful season of goodness and peace.
Dad: Grateful for our tradition of giving gifts to the Savior. Taking the time to ponder on his life and teachings and trying to be more like him--is the real meaning of Christmas.

One The Day Before Christmas...

Thursday, 24 December 2009

...we made a gingerbread house.

The decorating of the gingerbread house has become THE favorite activity for Christmas Eve.
We took our Christmas Eve party over to a friends house so that we could watch their son while they ran to the airport.

We played a mean hand of Match with Star Wars cards.

We made some chocolate covered popcorn which we gobbled down as we watched a Christmas movie.

Even though our Christmas Eve plans changed. A great time was had by all--simply because we were together.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that Santa comes tonight. I have been waiting a long time for tonight.
Valu: Grateful that I got to be Santa's helper.
Mom: Grateful for traditions. They really do bind us together.
Dad: Grateful that my wife thinks of wonderful traditions for us to do. If it was up to me, we wouldn't have any at all. Growing up, I can't recall any

On The 2nd Day Before Christmas...

...we slept under the Christmas tree.

Well, Keenan bailed about 10:30. He likes his comfy and quiet bedroom.
So do I, little buddy. So do I.
The Ki's might make it through the night.
I am betting a warm body will crawl into bed with me...I give him til 1am.
*edited: Big Ki crawled into bed at 2:07am.

Gratitude Journal
Keenan: Grateful that I get to stay up late and watch movies all night long.
Valu: Grateful that we have this tradition of sleeping under the tree. It is one of my favorites.
Mom: Grateful that we don't have to actually sleep on the floor under the tree. That wood floor is hard.
Dad: Grateful that our little family likes to snuggle with one another. It is definitely one of my favorite things to do.

On The 3rd Day Before Christmas...

...we baked some fudge for Valu to take with him caroling.

The youth in our ward go caroling every year. Everyone brings a homemade goodie and they divide the goodies into plates and take them to those who need a little glad tidings.
Even though Valu looks a bit grinchy he had a great time. How can you stay grumpy with a jester-style Santa Claus hat on your head? I think it is near impossible.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that I got to play video games today. My mom doesn't let me play when it is a school night.
Valu: Grateful that I went caroling--it really was fun.
Mom: Grateful for good Christmas movies. Today as I listening to some goose-bumpy Christmas music--this line from Jim Carrey as 'The Grinch' came to my mind, "Blast this Christmas music. It's joyful and triumphant."
Dad: Grateful for the ability to be forgiven. A bit random--but it is what I am grateful for today.

On The 4th Day Before Christmas...

Monday, 21 December 2009

...we actually flaked on our advent activity.

We spent the day in town getting little last minute gifts for friends. We got home really late and didn't have time for our symbols of Christmas FHE lesson. We will have to fit it in somewhere.

You know I like to post a photo with every post--so I'll share this cute moment.
I buy the boylies a Christmas book each year. I want them to have a library of Christmas books to take with them when they start their own families. This year I found these memory making books from Hallmark. They are recordable. Ki and I took turns recording a page. Ki is the best orator. I love his animated voice and clever pauses. Hopefully, the boylies and their families will enjoy these for generations. -- One can hope.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that we rode a train at the mall.
Valu: Grateful that we are not going to go shopping again for a long time.
Mom: Grateful that I have a husband with an adorable accent--perfect for story-time. :)
Dad: Grateful for this season. Tis the season to be jolly.

On The 5th Day Before Christmas...

Sunday, 20 December 2009

...we made our family Christmas card.

Elfing ourselves has become one of our favorite traditions. We laugh and laugh as we create this fun little family spoof. We have enjoyed 3 years of fun thanks to JibJab and OfficeMax. Hope they continue this wonderful free entertainment for years to come.

And...Yes! This is about as close as we get to sending out a Christmas Card.
Send your own ElfYourself eCards

Happy Holidays!

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that I could play today.
Valu: Grateful that church was only 2 hours today in celebration of Christmas.
Mom: Grateful that we are all easily amused.
Dad: Grateful for the laughter that fills our home. Laughter has to be the happiest sound on earth.

On The 6th Day Before Christmas...

Saturday, 19 December 2009

...we loving wrapped our presents and displayed them under the tree.

One of of our favorite traditions is wrapping our presents together. We gather all the ribbon and paper that I have found through-out the years. We find a good movie to watch and spend a few hours lovingly wrapping our presents. I think a beautiful package can be as important as the gift itself. The boys love the pretty packaging just as much as I do. Spending the extra time to make our gifts extra special makes us happy.

As we walk past the pretty packages it makes us smile and that is reason enough to continue the tradition.

Having our presents wrapped and ready to deliver to our neighbors and friends gives me a personal sense of relaxation. The holidays can be so stressful!-- When I walk into our home and see that our presents are already wrapped - I actually let out an audible sigh. I try hard to keep us/me from getting stressed and too busy. Wrapping everything ahead of time keeps my eyelids from twitching. (Yes, that is how I know that I am starting to get stressed.)

Bring on Christmas. We are ready!

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful for presents they make me REALLY happy.
Valu: Grateful that we take the time to make our presents nice.
Mom: Grateful that the boys appreciate all the little details of Christmas. I have always believed that LOVE is in the details.
Dad: Grateful that we can have fun together wrapping presents--who knew it could be so fun?

On The 7th Day Before Christmas...

Friday, 18 December 2009

...we celebrated the official start of our Christmas Break with some delicious hot chocolate.

We are always on the quest to find THE BEST hot chocolate. We love our hot chocolate like most people love their coffee. We don't have to have our fix daily but we probably drink this heavenly brew 2-3 times a month. However, during the holidays we celebrate and have it at least 2-3 times a week. When I saw this Max Brenner Chocolate set I knew the Ki's would love it. They went to the Max Brenner Chocolate Restaurant in Sydney and after 2 years are still talking about the amazing cocoa they had there.

I am also a sucker for a beautiful presentation.

I was enchanted by the unique shape of these mugs.
Quoting from their literature, "Hug Mug is a cacao bean shaped mug designed to keep your hands warm while drinking. It creates the ultimate experience of warmth and coziness and the openess of the mug allows the aroma of the chocolate to be thoroughly enjoyed. "

Keenan seems to like it.

Valu likes it too.
I don't know if we have found the world's best yet. We won't give up our quest, it sure is fun trying to find it. :)
Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that my party was today. I love parties.
Valu: The last day of school!! Do I really need to say the obvious?
Mom: Grateful that the boys are finished with school for a couple of weeks. I look forward to sleeping in past 6am.
Dad: Grateful for hot chocolate. It really is better than Milo. My wife finds the best things to enjoy.

On The 8th Day Before Christmas...

Thursday, 17 December 2009

...we made goodie bags for school friends and cards for teachers.

The boylies and I worked assemble line style to make these 21 gift bags for Keenie's classmates.
Kivalu took a bag full of candy to hand out to his mates. Living in the world of teenagers he can't take anything to school that is too cutesy. *sigh*

Here is the loot. The little snowman face spins with a press of the button. Frosty has about 6 different expressions. How cute is that Christmas tree ring? Fun little goodies we got at the dime store.

These are the cards I made for Keenan's teachers. He has 11. Yes, eleven. They specialize in a subject and rotate between 3 classrooms.
Isn't the boa a riot?!

The inside sentiment.

Valu opted out of taking anything to his teachers--the embrassing teenager thing again.
*edited: Right before Valu went to bed he decided that he wanted to take something to his teachers. Good thing we had some chocolate truffles as a standby.
As we worked away like good little elves we munched on this delicious goodness.
Ryan and Dawn expressed mailed this fabulous popcorn from Chicago. It made it to us fresh as fresh! It is to die for. THE BEST gourmet popcorn we have ever tasted. We downed half of the loot (she says with her head hanging in shame.) Look at how huge that bag is! We have two of them. One a mouth-watering carmel corn and the other a bold and tasty cheddar popcorn. We hardly ate any dinner because our bellies were so full of Garrett goodness. Thank-you Chicago Batchelor's. You made our day. Our week. Our month. Our Christmas.

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful that tomorrow is my school party. I can't wait. I am so excited!
Valu: Grateful that Mom can create presents at the last minute.
Mom: Grateful for a full belly of thoughtful yumminess. Grateful that my brother knows my heart--or should I say my tastebuds. :)
Dad: Grateful that this home is full of delicious holiday goodies. I always forget how much I love this time of year.

On The 9th Day Before Christmas...

...we celebrated 5 glorious years of Keenan being on this earth.

We all sang as Valu played "Happy Birthday" on the piano.

Keenan made a grand wish...he can't tell or it won't come true. :)

We ate oreo ice cream cake. Oreos are Keenie's favorite cookie.

Valu helped Keenan build his Star Wars lego ship.

Keenan scored on the Star Wars toys. They are still his favorite.

This is what I get when I ask the cute kiddo to smile for me.

This is the look I get when he is finished posing.

Dearest Keenan,

I will always remember the first time I held you in my arms. It wasn't right after you came into this world. I could only stroke your little face before they whisked you away to do tests and monitoring. A couple of hours later they placed your sweet little body in my arms. When I nuzzled into your little neck and kissed your cheek, you let out the sweetest little sigh. A sigh that seemed to express, " Finally, I am home." Our home wasn't complete until you arrived. How I adore. How we all adore you. You are such a bundle of pure joy. I love your happy and exuberant personality. You love making friends and have an amazing ability to remember everyone's name. As we go around town you yell out hellos and how are you's to all you know.

You have blossomed at your new school. You love all your new friends. And from what I hear from your teachers and the mothers of your girlie friends--you are quite the ladies man. You love the ladies and babies. The other day you proudly declared, "I am going to have 20 kids and 8 wives." When we told you that you can only have one wife, you said, "Well, I'll only have 3 then."

You love all things Star Wars. You hum the music from the soundtracks. You are starting to quote lines from the animated series. You are especially fond of ships right now. But the trooper guys are your very favorite.

I also love the cute songs that you are singing from school. You remember them and teach them to me. As of late you have been belting out the Hawaiian rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas. You even rock the pidgin.

You give the best full-body hugs. I live for these hugs. They are the best. You are the best.

I love you little dude. You have made the last 5 years joyous!

love, Mom

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Grateful for all of my presents.
Valu: Grateful that Keenan had a great day. I love you little brother.
Mom: Grateful that Keenan had a happy day. He was so excited to be able to share cupcakes with his school mates.
Dad: Grateful for my precious son. I love you Keenan.

On The 10th Day Before Christmas...

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

...we celebrated Mom's (My) birthday.

The boys spoiled me. All three boys gave me these gorgeous flowers. Ki got me a new camera and arranged a pampering day of shopping, salons and all things girlie. I loved every moment. I usually don't like to go into town and shop. I would much rather stay on our quiet side of the island and hang out at the beach. -- But, I must admit that I loved every minute of today. Being a girl is so fun!

I found the most delicious perfume. If you want to know what fresh smell likes take a whiff of these little dandies. I am in love. I found myself sniffing my arm all day. The best thing is that Ki loves them also. He does not share in my affection for fragrances. But these, he claims, are the very best perfumes he has every smelled. He actually said, "Now THAT is what a perfume should smell like?"

Gratitude Journal:
Keenan: Tomorrow is my birthday!!!
Valu: Grateful that my Mom is my mom.
Mom: Grateful for my thoughtful boys. I really do feel so blessed to be loved and adored by them. Everyday they tell me that they love me. I don't think a day has passed when my sweet hubby has not shared a reason why he loves me. I appreciate this simple gesture. It will be part of his legacy. So grateful to be a part of this family. It is an honor.
Dad: Grateful that my wife was born into this world. The greatest thing I have ever accomplished was getting her to marry me. I am the luckiest.

On the 11th Day Before Christmas...

Monday, 14 December 2009

...we read our VERY favorite Christmas books.

We try to read a Christmas story every night before the boylies go to sleep. Over the years we have accumulated quite a few. Some are definitely read more than others. But all of our Christmas Books are cherished. We look forward to pulling them down from the high shelf every Christmas season.

These stuffed bookends are new additions this season. The book holding bear is actually animated. He sways back and forth while he reads the entire "Twas The Night Before Christmas." We read along with him. The reindeer on the right is actually a humming puppet. As you open and close his mouth he hums 3 Christmas songs. He is definitely one our favorite Christmas finds.

Here are our favorites:

Keenan: "The Sweet Smell of Christmas". He loves the scratch and sniffs. This book was one of my favorites when I was a child, too. When I read this book and scratch on the gingerbread man it transports me to my childhood Christmases at 902 E 10th Street.

Valu: "Jan Brett's Christmas"--It has been his favorite since he was 5.
